This policy explains what personal information We Eat Well collects when you use our app and websites, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We are a New Zealand business and we handle your information in line with the Privacy Act 2020.
Information we collect
We collect information you give us, information created as you use We Eat Well, and a little from the services you sign in with.

How we use your information
- To run your account and the app: sign-in, saving your recipes, collections and meal plans, and showing your public profile.
- To tailor We Eat Well to you, such as default search filters from your dietary preferences and portion sizes from your household size.
- To send you account emails (for example password resets and email changes) and, if you’re subscribed, news and tips from We Eat Well.
- To keep the app safe: reviewing photos before they’re shown publicly, looking into reports, and preventing misuse.
- To understand how We Eat Well is used, so we can fix problems and decide what to improve. Where possible we look at this in aggregate.
- To meet our legal obligations.
We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t use it for anything unrelated to running and improving We Eat Well.
What other people can see
Anyone using We Eat Well can see your public profile (display name, profile photo, cover image and bio), the recipes you publish, your public collections, and your follower, following and recipe counts.
Your email address, age bracket, gender, preferences, meal plans, searches, and private recipes and collections are never shown to other people.
Who we share it with
We share personal information only with the service providers who help us run We Eat Well, and only what each one needs.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.
Some of these providers store information outside New Zealand. When that happens, we make sure it’s protected in a way that’s comparable to the Privacy Act 2020.
Cookies and analytics
Our websites use cookies to keep you signed in and, through Google Analytics, to understand how they’re used. Our app uses Mixpanel and a device identifier for the same purpose. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the websites may not work without them.
How long we keep it, and deleting your account
We keep your information while you have an account, and only as long as we need it after that.
You can delete your account at any time in the app. When you do:
- Straight away, we remove your name, email address, photos, bio and profile link, sign you out of every device, and remove you from our email lists.
- Recipes and collections you published stay available to the community, but are no longer linked to you. They show as from We Eat Well.
- Later, we permanently delete the remaining account record, along with your follows, saves, meal plans, points and devices.
Search and view records we keep for analysis are no longer linked to your name once your account is deleted. If you want a particular recipe removed rather than kept, contact us before or after deleting your account.
Security
We protect your information with encrypted connections, passwords stored only in a scrambled form we can’t read, and access limited to the people who need it to run We Eat Well. No system is completely secure. If a privacy breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we’ll tell you and the Privacy Commissioner as the law requires.
Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it. You can update most of it yourself in the app, and unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in any email.
To make a request, contact our privacy officer (below). We’ll respond within 20 working days. If you’re not happy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
Changes and contact
We’ll update this policy when the way we handle information changes, and change the effective date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll tell you in the app or by email.
